In 2016, U.S. cross-border exports of services to China totaled $53.7 billion, while imports totaled $16.0 billion. This yielded a services trade surplus of $37.6 billion. Exports increased by 11.9 percent from 2015, while imports increased by 7.2 percent. Travel services accounted for the largest share of U.S. cross-border exports of services to China (61.8 percent), and charges for the use of intellectual property accounted for the second-largest share (11.0 percent). Travel services also accounted for the largest share of U.S. cross-border imports of services from China (33.5 percent), and professional services accounted for the second-largest share (29.6 percent).
