U.S. exports of travel services (which reflect money spent in the United States by visiting nonresidents) rose $58.6 billion from 2011–2015, while U.S. imports (which reflect money spent in foreign countries by visiting U.S. residents) increased by $31.9 billion during the same period. The United States reported a trade surplus in travel services of $97.9 billion in 2015, up from $71.2 billion in 2011. The largest markets for U.S. exports of travel services were the European Union (EU), China, and Canada, with China overtaking Canada as the second largest market in 2014.
