  • U.S. imports increased by 8.2 percent annually to $86.4 billion in 2014

U.S. exports of professional services increased by $34.1 billion during 2010–14, while U.S. imports increased by $23.3 billion during the same period. The United States reported a trade surplus in professional services of $45.1 billion in 2014, up from $34.3 billion in 2010. The European Union (EU) has consistently been the United States’ leading export and import market for professional services, while Switzerland, which is not an EU member, is the second-largest destination for U.S. exports (primarily a result of the high value of U.S. exports of research and development services and of management and consulting services).
