We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of a major upgrade to the U.S. International Trade Commission’s (USITC) DataWeb (https://dataweb.usitc.gov/), the USITC web application that provides public access to the official U.S. import and export statistics of the U.S. Department of Commerce, as well as select tariff information. This new version, DataWeb 5.0, will launch January 16, 2025, and will introduce features to increase accessibility, flexibility, and accuracy, as well as an overall better user experience.

Some of the major improvements include:

  • Increased accessibility of the data
  • Programmatic access via an API connection
  • The ability to query data without creating an account or logging in
  • Improved visual and screen reader accessibility
  • More query parameter options such as custom time-period creation
  • Download option of a Pivot-ready dataset
  • New information on changes in product classifications over time
  • Data warnings (in the form of stars in web-based reports) when certain first unit of quantity data have been suppressed due to data confidentiality considerations
  • System suggestions on adding additional product codes to ensure a valid series for the entire time period being queried (i.e., to reflect changes or new additions to HTS codes over time)
  • Enhanced integration and summarization of normal trade relations duty rates
  • Longer sessions before system timeout for users accessing DataWeb with an account
  • Larger downloads allowed
  • Optimized query load times
  • Ability to create, edit, and share country and commodity groupings
  • Expanded ability for users to organize saved queries
  • Ability to sign up for monthly e-mails with data runs each month when data become available
  • New detailed explanations for variables and datapoints available throughout the application

These improvements were developed based on user feedback surveys, input from other U.S. government agencies, and internal USITC staff.

Please note that, as part of this upgrade, DataWeb will continue to use multifactor authentication services provided by Login.gov. Users were previously contacted and encouraged to connect their DataWeb accounts to Login.gov, which will ensure their accounts will be automatically migrated to the updated version upon its release. Users who have not linked their accounts to Login.gov by January 15, 2025, will need to re-register for a new account to avoid losing any saved queries.

The previous (or legacy) version of DataWeb (version 4.0) is being maintained and will be accessible for a brief period for users to access during the transition to the new version.
